She completed her internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Michigan State University in 1991, and her small animal surgery residency at The Ohio State University in 1994. Additionally, she has published several articles and textbook chapters related to fluid therapy resuscitation and shock treatment, and spontaneous pneumothorax in dogs.
Dr. Valentine assumed the role of hospital administrator and received her certificate of completion from the Veterinary Management Institute at Purdue University in 2007. Dr. Valentine’s clinical practice is limited to small animal emergency surgery including acute soft tissue, orthopedic and spinal cord disease or injury.
Nearly 30 years ago, Dr. Valentine was inspired to become a veterinarian because of her natural affection for animals and for people who have an endearing human-animal bond. As a veterinary surgeon, Dr. Valentine most enjoys taking part in a pet’s recovery process. She also has a special place in her heart for all types of service dogs. In her role as hospital administrator, she takes satisfaction in making a positive contribution to OVRA’s employees and the Eugene-Springfield community.
Following the loss of her beloved Labradors, Maggie and Chloe, Amy and her husband adopted two abandoned and neglected senior dogs with special needs named Grace and Spice. They felt that this was the best way to honor the memory of their previous pack members. It has been a wonderful and blessed experience for everyone.
