Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Amie Csiszer is a small animal surgery resident at OVRA. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University in 2006. Dr. Csiszer completed a one-year rotating internship at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in 2007 and a surgical internship with Veterinary Surgical Centers of the Delta in 2008. In addition to her veterinary education, Dr. Csiszer trained in the application of rehabilitation techniques for adjunct treatment of neurologic and orthopedic disease conditions with New England Physical Therapy for Animals. Dr. Csiszer is certified in endoscopic stent placement for treatment of tracheal collapse and urethral obstruction in dogs. Her areas of clinical interest are soft tissue reconstructive surgery and wound management, surgical oncology, orthopedic surgery and adult stem cell treatment for osteoarthritis.

As a surgical resident, Dr. Csiszer’s responsibilities include patient care in association with the OVRA board certified specialists. In accordance with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, the residency program is designed to provide advanced training in the diagnosis, operative treatment and postoperative management of animals with surgical disease, as well as the supporting disciplines of anesthesiology, radiology, internal medicine and clinical pathology. Dr. Csiszer successfully completed her residency program in July 2010.

Dr. Csiszer was inspired to become a veterinarian by her fascination with science and love of animals, as well as the unique challenges of working with animals and their caregivers. She most enjoys the interaction that she has with her clients, patients and coworkers in a compassionate team setting, to deal with the health and well being of her patients. She has a mixed breed dog named Stella, and a three legged cat named Ryder, both of whom were patients from local animal shelters and received treatment at OVRA before finding their forever home.
